Goff happy with maiden MG outing
Jack Goff declared himself happy with his first test with MG after completing a successful day of running at Donington Park.
With a focus on getting to know the car he will campaign in the BTCC this season, the new Triple Eight driver wracked up 100 laps of the East Midlands circuit, with team-mate Andrew Jordan also in action in the sister car.
“It was a really good first day back at school; the Headmaster didn’t tell me off too much,” Goff said. “It’s been a long time since I got behind the wheel of an NGTC car, and it was good to get so many laps in and blow away a few cobwebs.
“I pounded round and did a lot of laps, around 300km, not in search of overall pace, but the car is mighty quick on a race run on old tyres, so it’s given me a lot of confidence for the further tests I’ve got coming up.”
Despite not focusing on lap times, Goff said his first day at the wheel of the MG6 had left him optimistic about the year ahead given its performance compared to the Vauxhall Insignia and VW CC he has campaigned to date.
“The VW was a step on from the Vauxhall, but this feels like a bigger step on in terms of differences again,” he added. “My initial thoughts are that the MG feels so much stronger; it really encourages you to push and I’m looking forward to doing just that at Snetterton on Friday.”
