MG pair target Oulton Park breakthrough
MG duo Andrew Jordan and Jack Goff admit they are hoping for a breakthrough result this weekend when the BTCC heads to Oulton Park for the fourth meeting of the season.
The pair have yet to win this season with the MG6, which will take part in its 100th race during this weekend’s on-track action.
Jordan goes into the weekend sitting fifth in the championship standings following a second podium of the year last time out at Thruxton, and the former champion said he had been working hard to try and get more from the car as he seeks to take his first win of the campaign.
“I’m looking forward to the weekend!” he said. “Since Thruxton I have spent a lot of time working with my engineer to unlock more performance and it has been really positive. The MG has traditionally been well suited to Oulton Park in the past but everything has moved on in the last year.
“I’m confident that we can roll out in practice with a strong car and hopefully challenge towards the front in qualifying. Of course I want to win races but I’m not going to get desperate because I don’t need to be – we will take it one race at a time.”
Team-mate Goff meanwhile said he was hopeful that work away from the track would be rewarded with three solid results during the trip to Cheshire.
“Down the years Triple Eight have been quick around Oulton Park, despite it slightly favouring rear-wheel-drive cars recently,” he said. “We performed well at Thruxton and over the short break we’ve been able to look through the data and unlock some more performance.
“I’m heading into this weekend confident that we can challenge towards the front and get back on the podium. Everyone has moved forward in terms of performance since we last visited the circuit but so have we.”
